In War Memorial Park

The ash trees
are dying in
War Memorial Park
The city crew
systematically dismantles one
limb by limb
and it’s gone
The stoic cenotaph soldier
looks out
as the truck lumbers
the pieces away
The soldier
now more visible
to passersby
Names engraved
on the granite structure
he stands atop
WWI; WWII; Korea
limb by limb
men gone
